Summary
Pain is the public identity of Nagato, a shinobi of the Uzumaki clan who wielded the legendary Rinnegan — the eyes of the Sage of Six Paths. As a child in war-torn Amegakure, Nagato was orphaned and later trained by Jiraiya alongside Yahiko and Konan. Jiraiya believed Nagato to be the Child of Prophecy destined to change the world. After Yahiko's death at the hands of Hanzo and Danzo, Nagato's idealism was consumed by grief. He adopted the name Pain and developed the Six Paths technique — controlling six reanimated corpses, each with one power of the Rinnegan — with Yahiko's body serving as the Deva Path.
Pain's philosophy was forged in suffering: that humanity would only understand peace after experiencing the same devastation that created him. His attack on Konoha was the most devastating assault the village had suffered since the Nine-Tails' rampage. Using the Deva Path's Almighty Push, he obliterated the entire village in a single moment. Naruto, having mastered Sage Mode, confronted Pain in an epic battle that ended with Naruto finding the real Nagato hidden in a tree. Rather than killing Nagato, Naruto answered his question — that he would find peace through never giving up on his friends. Moved, Nagato used the Rinnegan's final power to revive everyone killed during the invasion and died believing in Naruto. Pain's legacy is the proof that even the deepest hatred can be overcome through understanding.
