Summary
Shikamaru Nara is the tactical genius of the Hidden Leaf Village, widely recognized as having an IQ of over 200. Born into the Nara clan, known for their shadow manipulation techniques and deer-herding traditions, Shikamaru inherited both his father Shikaku's strategic brilliance and a famously lazy disposition. His catchphrase "what a drag" (mendokusai) belies a razor-sharp intellect capable of analyzing complex battle scenarios and predicting enemy movements dozens of steps ahead.
As a member of Team 10 under Asuma Sarutobi alongside Ino Yamanaka and Choji Akimichi, Shikamaru formed the next generation of the legendary Ino-Shika-Cho formation. His shadow techniques — particularly the Shadow Imitation and Shadow Sewing jutsu — allow him to immobilize and strike multiple opponents simultaneously. During the Sasuke Retrieval arc, Shikamaru was the only member of his generation promoted to Chunin, and despite failing the mission, he demonstrated leadership far beyond his years.
The death of his sensei Asuma at the hands of Hidan of the Akatsuki was a turning point for Shikamaru.
