Summary
Kakuzu was the oldest member of the Akatsuki and perhaps its most pragmatic — viewing the organization purely as a profitable enterprise. After failing an assassination mission against Hashirama Senju (an impossible task), Kakuzu was imprisoned by his village. He escaped by stealing the Earth Grudge Fear technique, which replaced his body with dark threads and allowed him to steal the hearts of other shinobi, extending his lifespan indefinitely. He possessed five hearts, each granting a different chakra nature and able to function as independent elemental masks. Kakuzu was defeated by Team 10 and Team 7, with Naruto's newly-completed Wind Release: Rasenshuriken destroying two of his hearts simultaneously. His obsession with money and longevity made him a unique figure in the Akatsuki — a practical monster motivated by greed rather than ideology.
